RadarSAT 2

RADARSAT-2 is an advanced state-of-the-art technology, jointly-funded satellite mission of CSA (Canadian Space Agency) and MDA (MacDonald Dettwiler Associates Ltd. of Richmond, BC), representing a Canadian government/industry partnership in a commercial venture. RADRADARSAT-2 has selective single-polarization, selective dual-polarization, and quad-polarization, allowing the radar pulses to better detect target shape. It also carries sensors at ultra-fine spatial resolution (3 m), a selective look direction, and improved orbit control. RADARSAT-2 emits microwaves in the C-band, at a wavelength of 5.6 cm. It also has a fully-polarimetric mode that can detect VV, HH, HV, and VH polarized data.

 

Application:

  • mapping and updating of topographic and special maps as well as plans up to the scale of 1:25 000;

  • creation of DEM and DTM accurate to 3-6 m;

  • monitoring of natural disasters (floods, movement of glaciers and so on), regardless of the weather and time of day;

  • observation of polar ice and water reserve;

  • monitoring of rapidly developing ecological processes (oil spill, identification of pests and crop diseases and etc.);

  • mapping of crop conditions, assessment of contamination, identification of pests and crop diseases and so on;

  • mapping of forest stand, definition of forest species without ground research, monitoring of illegal logging and forest assessment;
